Location
Brest region is located in the south-west of the Republic of Belarus.
It borders upon the Republic of Poland in the west, and with the Ukraine
in the south.
Territory
The region occupies 32.8 thousand square kilometers.
Population
The population of the region is 1.455 million people. Density of
the population is 44 people per one square kilometer.

Transport corridors
Brest region has well-developed transport infrastructure. Brest
railway junction is among the largest in Central Europe and fully
ensures rail traffic of CIS member-states and West Europe in Moscow
and St. Petersburg directions. M1/E-30 Berlin-Warsaw-Brest-Minsk-Moscow
motor transit corridor is of special importance.
Extensive network of railway lines and motor roads ensures busy
cargo transportation (about 80% of land transport of CIS states
to Western Europe). About 300 thousand vehicles per month run along
M1/E-30 international motorway alone.
Brest has got its airport which has the status of an international
one and is able to admit all types of modern airplanes.Brest region
disposes of powerful industrial and export potentials.
Economics of the region
Brest region has a strong manufacturing and export potential. Brest
supports economic and trade cooperation with more than 118 countries.
Almost 700 enterprises of all forms of property and businesses involved
in export-import operations. In 2008 foreign trade turnover of the
Brest region amounted to 3 322.1 million (134,0% by 2007), including
exports - 1 647.8 million (125.7%), imports - 1 674.3 million (143.3%).

The region is the only Republican manufacturer of gas stoves (well
known outside the Republic under «Gephest»
trade mark) and electric light bulbs. Up to 90% of the Republican
forge and press equipment, up to 60% of cotton fabric, about one
half of fiberboards, one third of hosiery, facing tile, fat cheese,
one fourth of knitwork and ready-made garments, sugar and other
goods not inferior to the world analogues, are produced there. Many
kinds of products find their consumers far beyond the Republic,
in the European markets including.
During the recent years, a number of large projects of Republican
importance have been implemented in the region: reconstruction of
Bereza Hydroelectric
Power Plant, Zhabinka Sugar Refinery Public Joint Stock Company,modernization
and technical re-equipment of JV Brestgazoapparat JSC, Granite
Republican Unitary Industrial Enterprise.
Production of dairy and sour milk products containing lactulose; bifido-products;
iodinated milk; activill, yoghurt, desserts, cottage cheese, new
sorts of hard cheese was mastered with a view to advance competitive
strength of products manufactured by the enterprises of dairy industry.
All dairy branch proceeded to using disposal packing. The enterprises
included in Myasomolprom Concern arranged manufacture of smoked
products; boiled-smoked chickens and sprinkled summer sausages production
method was introduced. All products are packed with vacuum film.
Sterile dairy products processing line of 16.8 thousand tones per
year capacity was introduced at Savushkin
Product Public Joint Stock Company which enabled to increase
serviceable life of products up to 3 months, together with changing
the conditions of their storage.
The enterprises of packing industry are involved in engineering
re-equipment and modernization of production facilities. Twist-off
filling lines have been introduced.

Foreign investments
Brest region possesses great potentials for attracting
foreign investments. Thanks to its beneficial geopolitical situation
the region can become the springboard for the introduction of export
oriented goods on the markets of Russia and countries of CIS. Within
such conditions the greatest importance plays the regime of free
trade existing between Belarus and countries of CIS that lets to
supply the goods free of duty that originate on the territory of
the republic and are transported on the markets of other countries.
The region possesses a great number of high-qualified workmen who
are able to reach high level of productivity when applying progressive
western technologies, forms and methods of work .

The dynamics of attracting the foreign capital into the region
speaks about the constant growth of interest of foreign investors
to our region. In year 2002 into the region were attracted 14
mln.dollars USA of foreign investments and in year 2008 near
194 mln.dollars USA.
In general at the beginning of 2009 in Brest region were acquired
more than 356 mln.dollars USA of foreign investments.
The major countries investing into the economy of Brest region
are Russia (at the beginning of 2009 were saved 109,9 mln.dollars
USA), Germany(62,5 mln.dollars USA), United Kingdom (58,4 mln.dollars
USA) and Poland (28,4 mln.dollars USA). These countries attracted
more than two thirds of all the volume of foreign investments.
The greatest volume of foreign investments is attracted into
the industry (80,9% or 288,5 mln.dollars USA), trade (6,1% or
21,7 mln.dollars USA млн) and transport (4,8% or 17,0 mln.dollars
USA).
At the beginning of 2008 in Brest region were registered near
400 working enterprises with foreign investments. The first
three places according to the number of joined and foreign enterprises
share Poland (104), Russia (95) and Germany (73). A great number
of enterprises with foreign investments are from the USA(22),
Cyprus(13) the Ukraine (11), Czech (10), Great Britain (8),
Italy (9), the Netherlands (9), Switzerland (8). On the whole
in the region are represented organizations with foreign investments
from 43 countries.
